| 中文概述 Chinese Description | 本課程旨在透過各種英語新聞媒體如電視新聞（如CNN, BBC, NBC）、英文雜誌（如The Economist, Scientific American ）、英文報紙（New York Times, Washington Post, the Guardian等）等，來培養學生的批判性閱讀能力．並同時提升其宏觀視野與多元知識。課堂中將藉由分析英語新聞的用字遣詞、報導角度的取捨、標題與議題的呈現方式等，使學生學習如何思考報導背後之立場，從而進行批判性閱讀。此外，亦將剖析英語新聞中所含括之英美文學典故與文化傳統，帶領學生瞭解新聞英文的豐富意涵。 | |||
| 英文概述 English Description | This course aims to (1) develop students’ critical reading abilities, (2) expand their global horizons and (3) broaden their knowledge by using diverse English news reports provided by news channels (e.g. CNN, BBC and NBC), news magazines (e.g. The Economist and Scientific American) and newspapers (e.g. New York Times, Washington Post and The Guardian). Students will learn how to read critically by analyzing word choice, reporting angles and the selection and presentation of headlines or quotations. This course will also explore literary allusions and cultural references contained in English news in order to further enhance students’ English language competence. | |||
