| 中文概述 Chinese Description | 自古以來，人類生活於大自然中所歷經的普遍造就過程，從中建構了各地方的族群特徵，於是引發人類最初的原始文化，並與其日後發展密不可分。本課程以西洋中古文明為起點，希望從人文史學角度，將西方各大族群間逐漸形成的文化特色，引領同學討西方中古文明的起源、演變與西方近代文明對世界的後續影響，以擴展對世界各文化的認知視野；其次介紹西方各民族的文化遺產與當時生活樣貌，以幫助同學建立恢弘的世界觀，進而展現現代人應有的文化思維，以及邁向國際化地球村理念。課程包括蘇美文化、聖經與猶太王國、亞述及巴比倫帝國、古埃及文明、愛琴海文化、希臘城邦政治、馬其頓帝國、希臘化世界、羅馬共和國、羅馬帝國興衰與基督宗教的傳播、黑暗時代、東羅馬帝國和回教勢力的崛起、文藝復興與宗教改革運動、科學革命與啟蒙運動、世界各地著名史事簡介等。 | |||
| 英文概述 English Description | This course introduces to students the development of the Western Civilization from the early secular classics to the late 18th century. The focus is on the Classics of Greco-Rome culture, Christianity of the Middle Ages, Renaissance and the Age of Rediscoveries and Colonization. This course is intended to bring to students early periods and styles of Western civilization, so to enlighten students to the early secularism (Greco-Rome Culture) as well as Christian-ity (Medieval Ages), then finish by viewing the Renaissance in it's rediscovering of classics and rising of humanism. The content will cover the Ancient Greco-Roman culture, Medie-val Gothic style/spirit, Renaissance artistic creation, Baroque and Rococo styles, Neoclassicism, and Romanticism. | |||
